Reviews From The Crypt – THE BOYS FROM COUNTY HELL

This week in the crypt we take a look at the new Shudder Exclusive, THE BOYS FROM COUNTY HELL.

You can catch THE BOYS FROM COUNTY HELL beginning April 22nd on Shudder.

Clocking in at 88 minutes, this romp written and directed by Chris Baugh should do for vampires what Shaun Of The Dead did for zombies.

Based on Baugh’s 2013 short of the same name, the feature length follows an Irish road crew who disturbs something they shouldn’t have.

Led by a bickering father and son the family drama and “in” jokes aren’t overdone and fans are sure to at least chuckle at. Taking place in Six Mile Hill, the town’s claim to fame is that Bram Stoker spent the night there which is reminiscent of that person we all know who claims Stephen King once stopped in at whatever job they’re working.

Outside of that we don’t want to say too much as we don’t want to spoil the film.

What works is there’s plenty of gore and blood. It’s a fun film, over the past few years horror has had a huge swing towards more dramatic fare and that’s fine, but horror also needs to be fun and this brings that to the table. Has some great dark comedy.

Where it falls a little short is the accents can be thick at times which means a first viewing it might be a good idea to have subtitles on.

Rating: 4 out of 5.
