Miss America Serves 2018 Presented By Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals

THE 4TH ANNUAL MISS AMERICA SERVES DAY
PRESENTED BY CHILDREN’S MIRACLE NETWORK HOSPITALS

Atlantic City, NJ (April 9, 2018) –
Miss America 2018 Cara Mund lead titleholders and volunteers across the country during the 4th  Annual Miss America Serves Day presented by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. State and local titleholders joined family, friends, and volunteers for service projects in their communities across the nation to raise funds for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and Miss America scholarships.

Cara and Miss America 1984 Suzette Charles kicked off the national event on April 6th with a visit to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where they spent the afternoon with patients and staff, worked on craft projects, and hosted the daily bingo game in their Seacrest Studios.

“This weekend was for the kids,” said Cara Mund, Miss America 2018. “Miss America Serves is an initiative that began four years ago and has continued to grow each year. 70% of the funds raised go to local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and 30% to Miss America state scholarships. I am so proud to see all the local and state titleholders organizing their own projects across the country and making a real impact in their communities. In the Miss America program we advocate the importance of service year-round, but it is so special to come together each year in a national effort to make a difference.”

On April 7th, the official day of Miss America Serves, as the National Goodwill Ambassador for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, Cara dedicated her day of service to Children’s Specialized Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ. She met with patients and staff, worked on craft projects with the kids, and gave out custom Miss America cookies!

Thank you to all of the Miss America state and local titleholders and volunteers who participated in this weekends event to raise funds for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and Miss America scholarships.

MAOTeen 2018 is off to college! West Point!!!

We are honored to announce that Jessica Baeder, MAOTeen 2018 has accepted an appointment to the US Military Academy at West Point.  “In joining the Long Gray Line, I also follow in the footsteps of my father, grandfathers, and great-grandfathers who all served in the military.  This has been in my heart and mind since I was little and although I was blessed to have some amazing offers from other incredible universities, ultimately I felt the Lord’s urging that this is the path He has for me.  I visited again this past weekend and felt again that I “fit” here.  I am incredibly grateful to so many people who have inspired me and shaped my life and supported me- and to the MAOTeen program.  There is no doubt that the emphasis in the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen and Miss America programs on service, community engagement, scholastic achievement, physical fitness, and leadership skills prepared me well.  These elements are well-matched with the qualities West Point seeks in its cadets.  I am grateful to the incredible women who paved the way for me at West Point and I look forward to serving my country to the best of my ability.”

“Each year, I am honored to watch our participants across the country pursue their educational dreams.  Jessica has chosen a path that emphasizes not only her strength of character but also a commitment to her country. It is a very high honor to receive an appointment to a US Military Academy.  She is now a member of an elite group of young women and men!  Congratulations, Jessica!  We could not be more proud!” Donna Bozarth

ABOUT THE MAOTEEN ORGANIZATION:

The MAOTeen organization encourages positive achievement by helping to nurture and build the scholastic achievement, creative accomplishment, healthy living, and community involvement of our nation’s young women. MAOTeen provides educational scholarships for deserving young people and has developed mentoring programs and community-based initiatives across the country. The Miss America’s Outstanding Teen organization has a long-standing relationship with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Through this partnership, MAOTeen contestants raise over $450,000 annually to benefit CMN Hospitals and MAOTeen scholarships. Miss America’s Outstanding Teen 2018 to attend the US Military Academy at West Point

Certificate of Appointment.jpgThe Miss America Organization congratulates Jessica Baeder, Miss America’s Outstanding Teen 2018, on her appointment to the US Military Academy at West Point. She follows the footsteps of her father, grandfathers, and great grandfathers who all served in the military.

As Miss America’s Outstanding Teen, Jessica travels the country speaking to audiences about her platform, “Healthy Food For All,” and acts as the official National Teen Goodwill Ambassador for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. She has spent over 800 hours of volunteer time dedicated to providing healthy food options for all communities and has created two innovative programs. Her “Fresh Fruit 4 Kids” campaign makes baskets of fresh fruit at grocery stores available for children to sample for free, promoting healthy snacks. “Jessica’s Pantry” is a food drive initiative created to supplement summer lunch programs for low income children.

Having become a second-degree black belt at the age of 9, Jessica combines her Tae Kwon Do skills and philanthropic spirit to teach “Fit for Life” lessons at schools, emphasizing nutrition and fitness. Jessica wants to ensure that everyone has the information and opportunity to make good decisions about their health. She is committed to hands-on service, being a voice for positive change, and creating a nation of healthier children and families.

We wish Jessica the best of luck with her future endeavors at the US Military Academy at West Point!

Is it International Pageant Day on not?

The Pageant Planet and a few sites are stating today is “International Pageant Day.”

Now, I don’t know if that is true or not. For instance, What National Day Is It?‘s site, states tomorrow, April 9, is National Pageant Day. So I did some research.

…and I came to the conclusion that a lot more people tweet about pageants on April 25. Why? Watch Miss Congeniality again and then ask me again.

Stan Fields: Miss Rhode Island, please describe your idea of a perfect date.

Cheryl “Rhode Island”: That’s a tough one. I’d have to say April 25th. Because it’s not too hot, not too cold, all you need is a light jacket.

Source: IMDB

But in the meantime, I can throw in with Pageant Planet and tell you to tag #InternationalPageantDay and celebrate.

By the way, remember to tag @PageantCast anytime on Instagram or Twitter and we just might include it on our Wednesday Mailbag feature.
